FOUNDERS

The idea of establishing Inspire Ethiopia started in the summer of 2014 when Emmanuela and Eliana Nitkin and their parents, Todd and Hibist Melesse Nitkin, visited their mother’s ancestral village called Wadeye.  Nestled in the majestic green mountains of southwest Ethiopia, Wadeye is a beautiful but impoverished rural village.  Emma and Eliana were heartbroken when they saw the living conditions of the people in the village. There is no electricity, no running water, and no proper sanitation. When they visited the village school, they saw that it was ill-equipped and critical supplies and resources were badly lacking.  As they thought about what they could do to make a difference in the children’s lives, they quickly realized that improving the quality of education in the village would offer the kids the best path to success in the future.  So, they were determined to help build a well-functioning and well-equipped primary and secondary school that will provide quality education to the children in the village. It was this passion and determination to change the lives of poor kids in a remote Ethiopian village that led the Nitkin family to establish Inspire Ethiopia.
